Breathe
You know when you are stressed! The little voice in your head repeats over and over again, “I am so stressed, I am so stressed.” Often, you are so busy that you don’t even take the time to identify the stressor.
First, take a few moments to STOP and BREATHE, notice your breathing and breathe deeply to bring yourself into the moment. Exhale completely and notice how you are feeling. It only takes a few moments and sometimes that is all you need. This simple exercise can make a big difference, slow things down and give you the opportunity to re-group and get re-grounded.
At the MindHealing InstituteⓇ one of the first things we will do with you is to STOP, BREATHE and NOTICE, whether we are practicing Reiki, Therapeutic Meditation, Yoga Therapy or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). It sounds so simple, yet without practice, this simple task can be overwhelming and just one more thing to do and remember.
STOP …….. what you are doing, just for a moment.
BREATHE IN ……… deeply into your belly filling your lungs,
BREATHE OUT ………completely emptying your lungs and releasing the stress,
NOTICE YOUR BREATHING,
NOTICE HOW YOU ARE FEELING.
Repeat as necessary or as time allows
Practice this exercise for 1 minute or 10 minutes but practice.
Be proactive and reach out for help. You CAN manage your stress, you just may need a little boost to get you started.
